Lunar Eclipse Dec10 by James-Bong Lunar Eclipse Dec10 by James-Bong
As soon as I heard about the total eclipse, I started researching the time and location for it. I found it would be ending totality around moonset/sunrise, so I looked at the photographer's ephemeris (great program, BTW) and google maps to plan the best location and figure out the best lens I could afford to rent. I picked up a Canon EF 400mm f/5.6 L USM from Borrowlenses.com for the weekend and set my alarm for 4AM. The eclipse was already starting as I left my house, and I knew it would take an hour to get to my shot location. I got there, carried my gear and thermos out in to the field, set up and started shooting. Because of the slow aperture of the lens, I had to push my ISO up to keep the Moon from blurring. I think this one came out nicely.
